Campbelltown was established as far back as 1820 and earns its name from a lady by the name of Elizabeth Campbell who was the wife of a former Governor of New South Wales by the name of Lachlan Macquarie. Before Sydney was colonised by Europeans Campbelltown was occupied by what were known as the Tharawal People – but the urge to explore by early settlers soon had the land converted into grazing land. Campbelltown is part of Sydney and lies over 50 kilometres from Sydney CBD.
